Lesson Learned Today Jan 15

GET DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL: What do I mean. For example, today I had to put up posters for the kids to use in their lesson. As I started to hang them I realized - wait - these are for the younger children - and as short as I am - they are still shorter. So I bent down and put them at the eye level of the children using them. We forget this too often. We are big people, but we need to look at things from their level and their perspective sometimes.

  1. I was asked to come up with lessons and crafts for my church's pre-K classes, and I'm having a very difficult time of it. They want crafts each week, and I've never been "into" crafts -- not as a child, not as a mom or Brownie leader (I quickly switched to Cadette leader and another mom took the Brownies!), and certainly not as a teacher of English for 11th and 12th grades. I find websites and books with ideas, but they're usually written for 4-6 year olds, and our church's pre-K is for 3-5 year olds. What a difference THAT makes. AND... there are no regular teachers for this age group. There are lots of volunteers for the younger kids and babies, but not for the pre-K group. I'm mystified about what to do, and I wrote to the pastor who's in charge of our children's ministry. We'll see what happens, I guess.

    1. Dear Marilyn, I was in those shoes a few years ago trying to find crafts for ages 4-6th grade. That is quite a span and I had good luck at http://dltk-bible.com/craft-index.htm - It is not coming through as a link but it is an excellent website for Christian crafts. Sometimes the age span made a difference but not often because she has a lot of "all ages" and surprisingly, we were able to make it work for our evening children's ministry. The site also has lesson ideas for all age groups. I hope this will help you a little. Anyone else out there have any ideas?
